Prior to Maggie’s Place, Veronica was taking a hold of her sobriety through a rehabilitation program. She did not have healthy family relationships to support her efforts, nor her pregnancy. Veronica heard about Maggie’s Place through her drug rehabilitation facility. She moved into the home just a few weeks before her scheduled release date. “If I didn’t get in here, I don’t know where I would be with my baby.”
While at Maggie’s Place, Veronica worked part time, building her savings and excelling in her sobriety. She secured an internship at a rehabilitation facility. “I want to give back to the community. I’ve seen how addiction affects families and it’s inspired me to help. I’m able to relate to others in this situation and help them in sustaining their sobriety.” During her stay, she gave birth to Andre, who weighed a hearty 9 lbs 5 oz.
“As time passed, I couldn’t believe that I was actually here. It was God’s way of opening a new path for me. I can do good with my life with the support of Maggie’s Place.”
Nine months ago, we shared Veronica’s story. At that time, Veronica had just given birth to her son Andre and was seeking an internship to become a recovery coach. She shared, “I’ve seen how addiction affects families and it’s inspired me to help. I’m able to relate to others in this situation and help them in sustaining their sobriety.”
Now, Veronica has almost completed her internship and baby Andre is ready to start walking! She’s a very busy mom who gets up at 4am to start her day, takes Andre to daycare, and rides the bus to work. “Andre is the reason why I’m here. Without him, I’d still be in my addiction. He’s the reason…my new beginning.”
Over the past few months, Veronica has taken advantage of many Maggie’s Place programs. She completed the Maggie’s Thrift Job Training Program, which she felt helped her with communication skills. She also completed the Triple P Parenting course—twice! “I’m not a first time mom, but this class was like a fresh start. It gave me tips on Andre’s behavior and how to interact with him.”
“Maggie’s Place is my biggest support. They opened their doors to a stranger. I think about all the support, encouragement, and unconditional love I received here. I’m not alone in the struggles I’m experiencing in life.”
Without you, mothers in need would not have the support of this loving community. Thank you for providing our moms and their precious babies with a safe place to live and opportunities to succeed.
