Maggie’s Thrift is a social enterprise store benefiting the work of Maggie’s Place. Social entrepreneurship is defined as, “the use of a business to help develop, fund, and implement solutions to social, cultural and environmental issues. It often creates deeper purpose and meaning, and allows entrepreneurs to think beyond benefiting themselves.” In other words, it’s an extension of everything we do at Maggie’s Place. Our overarching purpose is to help support moms and babies that call Maggie’s Place home.
It’s easy to get there. The address is 1517 E. McDowell Rd in Phoenix. The little store offers high quality used furniture, clothing and household items. You can shop here–it’s open to the public. You can also donate gently-used goods to the store. All proceeds from the shop go to support Maggie’s Place. Thrift will even pick up larger items in good condition.
Another aspect of the store, along with a fun shopping experience, is that it also serves the current and alumnae moms with a job training program where they can get relevant customer service and management experience to add to their resumes.
Of course, there are items in high demand. These include: kitchenware, cups, silverware, working electronics, computers, laptops and microwaves, and, of course, women’s, children’s and men’s clothing.
As a bonus for shoppers, the team at Maggie’s Thrift puts out a monthly calendar highlighting sales and specials. So what’s coming up for September?
